Every year the Distillery Manager, John MacDonald, selects the finest examples of Balblair from the maturing whiskies which he believes best exemplify the distillery style. Of the thousands of barrels sampled each year, only a limited number are bottled as Balblair Vintage.

Tasting note: Bright pale straw gold. Ideal clarity. Soft and pure aromas of fruit’n'nut cereal with flashes of bubblegum / marshmallow. Brief air contact shifts the accent towards nashi-pear / apple strudel with underlying sweet spices present. A lovely sniff. Entry is delicate and light, leading into a gently spicy, medium dry burst of biscuity malt followed by suggestions of fruit towards the finish, Quite peppery to close with some clean oak notes in the fade. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... The 2000 vintage of Balblair is intended to replace the well-regarded 1997 variant. Matured in first-fill American oak, this very drinkable expression represents good value for the money. A pretty peach and pineapple nose, with coconut and honeyed vanilla. Toasted marshmallows with time. Relatively light-bodied, sweet, with lively spice, ginger, and youthful oak on the relatively complex palate. Fudge in the finish, and a contrasting hint of dark chocolate at the last. 89 points
